Pre porovnanie: vírusy majú veľkosť od 15 do 150 nm a baktérie od 350 do 1000 nm, sú teda podstatne väčšie než častice koloidného zlata, ktoré vďaka tomu môžu voľne prenikať do vnútra patogénov a podporovať liečebný proces. Tieto častice majú veľkosť od 1 do maximálne 10 nm (pre porovnanie, hrúbka ľudského vlasu je okolo 50 um, a tieto častice sú ešte 1000x menšie).
